Psalm 34
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
9 Fear the Lord, you his holy people,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
10 The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
11 Come, my children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Whoever of you loves life
and desires to see many good days,
13 keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from telling lies.
14 Turn from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.
Holy God, as we think about our sense of taste today, help us to taste and see that You are good. Truly, when we seek You, we lack no good thing. Remind us, Lord, what the good things are. We confess that too often we call the wrong things good, and we seek things that are not You. Forgive us, and help us to love life, to desire to see many good days, to do good, and to seek peace. Amen.
Sermon Title - Serving God with All Five Senses - Taste
Hymn - For the Bread Which You Have Broken
(adapted slightly from Presbyterian Mission Agency website)
Almighty God, in Christ You taught us to pray,
and promised that we would receive all that we ask in His name.
Hear now our prayers as we each take the opportunity to share with You whatever comes to our minds and our hearts as we are guided by these prompts:
for the church universal …
for West Hempfield Presbyterian Church, its mission and ministry …
for the healing of the earth …
for peace and justice in the world …
for all nations and their leaders …
for our local community …
for the poor and oppressed …
for the bereaved and lonely …
for all who need healing …
Guide us, O God, by Your Holy Spirit, that all of our prayers and all of our lives may serve Your will and show Your love;
Even while we remain apart, we join all our prayers together by closing with the words Your Son taught us, saying...
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
Go in the grace, mercy, and peace of God, the Father
the love of Jesus Christ, His one and only Son
and the fellowship of His Holy Spirit
both now and forever
Amen
